It's Easier to be Green

The messages of sustainability have filtered through: Millennials are the largest group willing to pay more to save the environment by going green.

The Boho Hippie Outfitter is committed to being as green as possible. We’re a Print On Demand store, which means that we don’t carry an inventory at all. When you order it, it’s printed in the US at that point, then shipped directly to you. Some items are imported, but we try to source those as sustainably as possible – which is why we’re going to be carrying a line of bamboo items.

Here’s what Print On Demand means to youl

25% of Big Retail stock goes unsold. Every second a garbage truck load of apparel is either burned or thrown into a landfill. With Print On Demand, there is no excess inventory production waste to be thrown away here, or shipping to another country for disposal. There’s unlimited product variance instead of a few mass produced items to select from.

Items also produced regionally, cutting down on shipping and delivery costs. Shipping means to the store, and delivery means to you directly. Think about one truck like USPS going to your home, instead of of everyone going to different stores to go get something, and then another store. Guess how much gas, carbon emissions, road wear and congestion, your car’s wear and tear, and your personal time that all saves!

Let’s face it, retailers make money through cost savings. The least expensive, or cheapest, route to those savings is mass production, which can be deadly to the environment. It also comes at the cost of limiting consumer choices making real quality unaffordable, while using marketing techniques giving you illusions of savings, choices, and quality.

Sourcing count. Printify wants to be climate neutral by 2030. Printful is moving along the same path.

We carry lines of Eco-Friendly products that can be organic, reusable, bio-degradable, vegan, and ethically sourced. Printing methods, ink, and packaging are other ways to go green that are hard to find in retail stores.

In addition, we’re buying carbon offsets with each item shipped.

Let people know through branding and marketing. Involve your customers. Donate a part of every tshirt sold to planting a tree. Show what’s been achieved together.

Educate customers about the green initiative.

The Boho Outfitter tries to reduce the need for returns, which involves extra shipping and packaging. That’s why our Descriptions inform our customers by including a lot of info about the product regarding material, sizing, and fit. Texture, country of origin, showing a model’s height and size, video, and different lighting makes returns less likely.

We’re not doing green-washing, where more money is spent marketing yourself as green than actually enacting green policies that minimize environmental impact. At the end of the year, we will show exactly what our initiatives have accomplished.
